PATTERN RELEASE
This Knight Doll Add-On Pattern is finally here—and it’s not just any release. This one's incredibly close to my heart.
I first read the book "Alanna: The First Adventure" by Tamora Pierce when I was in 6th grade. I loved it so much, and borrowed it so often from my school's library, that even after I'd graduated out of that school, I would come back to borrow it again. Eventually a librarian forcibly gave me one of the library's copies of the book, told me to find new books to love in my new school building's library, and shooed me out. And I did exactly that -- but you never forget your first love (and that paperback is still one of my most treasured possessions).
To that end, when my daughter was ready, we read the whole quartet together and it was everything I'd hoped for. When we finished reading and had cried together multiple times, I gifted her her own copy with a note from me inside, and a necklace made with Yooperlite that fluoresces in blacklight -- and the memory of that will be something I cherish for the rest of my life.
This pattern was something I always knew I'd write for my Doll, inspired by the stories that shaped my childhood and my love for fantasy. It's not perfectly suited for Alanna, as she did not favor plate armor -- but I did my absolute best to honor her in the creation of this specific knight doll you see here. The Knight add-on does not include the cat pattern, for Faithful -- it will possibly be a future pattern! This doll also uses a 22cm sword that I added a crystal to, on the hilt (but the pattern does contain a crocheted sword!). Almost a year ago, I sent this Alanna-inspired doll to Ms. Pierce along with a note that likely fell woefully short of properly conveying my heartfelt gratitude for her work.
In fact, I’ve dedicated this whole 150 page pattern to the incomparable Tamora Pierce, Fantasy Author, whose reverence for the fiber arts is something I've come to appreciate more and more over the years, and whose fierce heroines made me believe girls could wield swords, dress as they want, work hard, and change the world.
In fact, "Song of the Lioness, Book 1: Alanna" a Graphic Novel (!!) is being released on May 13th, 2025!! I just pre-ordered my copy from Mysterious Galaxy!

Phew. Anybody else need a hug? I feel all wobbly and vulnerable.
I hope you really enjoy this pattern -- I put a lot into it. Thanks for crocheting with me <3
